Doubles teams key to Dragons\' victory

The Warren girls tennis team bounced back from a tough 3-2 loss to Erie on Monday, earning a 3-2 Region 2 victory over visiting Mercyhurst Prep on Wednesday.
The Dragons came away with the win behind a strong performance from their doubles teams and another solid showing from co-captain Scotlynn Perry at first singles.
Perry beat Fiona Gade 6-1, 6-1.
"Co-captain Scotlynn Perry has been holding it down for us all season in the top singles spot. She's consistently playing the best player from every school and continues to be our closer in these tight matches," Warren head coach Thomas Pellegrino said. "She's improving every match and we have been extremely impressed with how she's improving her game and handling the pressure."
At second singles, Mercyhurst Prep's Khloe Kensil won 6-3, 6-2.
Mercyhurst's Lucy Dunn won 6-0, 6-3 at third singles.
Warren's Laken Carroll and Laelah Mueller gave the Dragons their second win 1-6, 7-6, 6-1 at first doubles while Caylin Warner and Carly Fitzsimmons pulled out a 6-0, 6-1 victory at second doubles.
At first doubles, Carroll and Mueller had to battle back after dropping the opening set 1-6. The Warren duo settled in, made some key adjustments and fought their way through a second-set tiebreaker before taking control in the third set.
"We were proud of how our first doubles responded after losing the opening set," Pellegrino said. "They had a bit of a slow start but were able to make some key adjustments to take the second set in a breaker before rolling away with the match in the third."
Tia French was a winner in her JV singled match
The Dragons are now 4-4 on the season and will travel to St. Marys on Friday to take on the Dutchmen.
