CORRY -- The Warren boys and girls cross country teams had impressive showings in Region 4 action Tuesday.
Emma Peterson (20:33), Nina Woldt (21:05) and Adi Cullers (24:44) went 1-2-3 in the varsity girls race, defeating all three Beavers. There was no official team winner for the contest as teams need at least five runners to score the race, and each team only had three.
The varsity boys mirrored the girls' success as Leyton Salvatore (17:17), Cole Fitzgerald (17:37) and Grayson Collopy (17:42) were the top three finishers. Rounding out the top five for the Dragons were Channing Nuhfer (18:54) and Mason Smith (19:20), who finished sixth and seventh, respectively, en route to the convincing 19-40 victory.
"Our training continues to be hard to get these kids to our end game goal of districts and states," head coach Michelle Johnson said. "They are pushing right along with each run and workout. Coach (Troy) Shattuck and I are very hopeful for all that is to come with these athletes."
Both junior high teams captured victories in their events as well. Elsie Woldt (9:58) earned a first-place finish, followed by Ashlynn Zawacki (12:20) in third, Claire Peterson (12:30) in fourth, Briauna Dougherty (12:39) in fifth and Grace Peterson (12:39.43) narrowly in sixth overall. The junior high girls won by a 19-50 margin over the Beavers.
The junior high boys had a tight 22-34 win led by medalist Curtis McGraw's 9:54 pace, followed by Cole Enos' second-place time of 10:12. In fourth overall was Zane Getner (10:17), followed by Ridgley Blum (10:46) in seventh place and Jackson Warner (11:10) in eighth.
The Dragons varsity squads return to the course Saturday when they travel to Newville to compete in the Pennsylvania Foundations Invitational.
