NORTH EAST -- Warren senior Kate Shippee tied McDowell's Bella Deaton with scores of 85 for medalist honors as the Dragons finished third in a Region 6 mega match held at the Green Meadows Golf Course.
Warren's combined three-of-five girls score of 319 narrowly finished one stroke behind Harbor Creek's 318. The McDowell Trojans won with a score of 277 and Meadville came in fourth at 322.
"Green Meadows is a very challenging course as it measures out at 5,177 yards for the ladies tees and is heavily guarded by trees and thick grass," said head coach Scott Pearson. "I thought it was even more challenging today, as it was windy and very wet. I'm really happy for Kate as she is really playing at a high level and swinging fundamentally sound. She is compressing the ball very well, hitting her irons and driver solid, and her chipping is great."
Also competing for the Dragons and having the low score in her group was sophomore Zella Hendricks, who shot a 103 in the outing.
" was also impressed with Zella as she was hitting some very good shots and had a nice bounce back round from last week's mega match," Pearson said. "We were ever so close to coming in second (as a team) and gaining some points in the standings and it just shows how important each shot is."
Alyssa Reichle ended with a 131, followed by a 146 from Cailee Williams and Juliana Polito rounding out the scoring with a 158.
"I am really proud of everyone today as I have seen nice swing improvements even though some of the scores weren't exactly what they wanted," Pearson said.
Warren is back in action today at the General McLane Invitational held at Riverside Golf Course in Cambridge Springs.
