ERIE -- A day after tying her record competition round of 7-over-par, Kate Shippee shot another 7-over-par for an 80 at Downing Golf Course on Thursday.
“It was her lowest competition round at Downing in her four years of playing there and was good enough for runner-up," said head coach Scott Pearson. "It was almost a mirror image of yesterday’s match where she also had a 42 on the front nine, but today had a 38 on the back nine. Her chipping has been solid as well as her ball striking, which has been putting her in excellent positions to go at the pin or save par. Today shows that she can compete on longer courses as her score could have been even lower."
Shippee also secured an automatic bid into the District 10 Individual Championships, and currently stands tied atop the Region 3 (AAA) standings with Bella Deaton of McDowell with an 81.75 scoring average with just one mega match remaining.
"She has put a lot of work into her game the last four years and she is really deserving of the season she has had so far," said Pearson.
Zella Hendricks also turned in her best round of the season with a 101 and had many nice shots.
"We are hoping to see her finish the season strong, and it is great to see her having some solid rounds," said Pearson.
As a team, Warren tied for third place with Meadville with a three-person score of 313, but lost the tie breaker resulting in a fourth-place finish.
McDowell won the team event again with a 263, followed by Harbor Creek with a 290, Meadville with a 313, and Warren with a 313. In addition to Shippee and Hendricks, Alyssa Reichle shot a 132, and Cailee Williams a 141.
The Lady Dragons return to action on Monday at the Bulldog Invitational at The Country Club in Meadville.
