Seniors Shippee, Reichle fire career-low rounds

RUSSELL -- It was Senior Day for the Warren girls golf team as it celebrated the senior duo of Kate Shippee and Alyssa Reichle at Cable Hollow Golf Course for a Region 3 AAA mega match.
Shippee tied her career-low competition round as she fired a 7-over-par 78, and Reichle's 106 was also her career low.
As a team, the Dragons fired their best three-person round of 288, which was 31 strokes better than their previous best 319. This was short of both Meadville and Harbor Creek for second place, where each team had players also shoot their best rounds of their careers.
“We keep on improving, but so is everyone else,” said Warren coach Scott Pearson. "We have been ever so close in every match for the second team spot, which goes to Districts. It was great to see some low rounds of the season by both Kate and Alyssa. Kate shot a 42 on the front nine, but really came back strong with a 36 on the back nine, finishing birdie, birdie, par, par. Alyssa is also really starting to gain confidence and is playing some of the best golf of her short career. We were able to play almost every player today and we were able to beat the rain."
McDowell won the team match with a 247, followed by Harbor Creek at 278, Meadville with 283 and Warren at 288. Shippee led the Dragons with a 78, followed by Zella Hendricks 104, Reichle 106, Cailee Williams 126 and Emma Sproveri 143. Nine-hole jayvee rounds were also played by Alyssa Goss and Juliana Polito.
It is a quick turnaround as the Dragons visit McDowell today at Downing Golf Course in Harbor Creek. Start time is 10 a.m.
