Dragons breeze to volleyball win over Brookville

The Warren girls volleyball team was all business Wednesday as it defeated Brookville 25-12, 25-18, 25-14 at Warren Area High School.

The victory was an all-around team effort spearheaded by total domination on the offensive end as everyone played their role and contributed to the sweep.

"We did a good job spreading our offense around, getting everyone involved in the attack," reported head coach Mike Dolan. "Our setters ran a very balanced attack, and we took lots of effective swings from all our hitters. Attie Corey had an especially good game, hitting .600 on the night. Our back-row defense was good as well, with Paiden Johnson leading the way with eight digs."

Of the 43 team kills, Hailey Cabisca led the way with 12, followed by Attie Corey's 11, nine by Lara Pearson, five from Julia Getner, three by Brooke Sherry, and one each from Brynn Norris, Grace Schwab and Peyton Cabisca. Also contributing to the win was Paiden Johnson with eight digs, two aces; Malaysia Sorensen with three aces and Brynn Norris with 32 assists.

In junior varsity action, the Raiders were victorious over the Dragons 25-18, 27-25.

Following are the stats from that match: Kendall Skerda four kills, 10 digs; Lexi Nuhfer four aces, three digs and eight assists; Monica Malczyk three aces, two kills and seven assists; Taylor Swanson four kills, three digs and two blocks; and Marie Malczyk two aces, two kills and two blocks. The Dragon junior varsity squad heads to Kane on Saturday to compete in an all-day tournament.

The Dragons host General McLane on Monday at Warren Area High School for a 6 p.m. junior varsity start with varsity to follow.
