Knights travel to Corry for Region 3 game

The Eisenhower Knights will look to get into the win column for the first time tonight when they take the short trip to Corry for another Region 3 football game.
It won't be an easy task for the young Knights.
"Corry is a tremendously coached team which plays technically sound football in every aspect of the game," said Eisenhower (0-2, 0-1 Region 3) head coach Jim Penley.
Corry (1-1, 0-0) is led by senior quarterback Jack Vanchieri, who has gone 28 of 41 for 359 yards and three touchdowns through the air.
"He can throw and is a very capable runner," Penley said. "We have to respect his skills."
A trio of talented receivers lead Corry. Jackson Lathrop has seven catches for 102 yards, Deion Canada has seven catches for 97 yards and Connor Sterling has six catches for 98 yards. Each has caught a touchdown.
Penley is aware of what his team will be up against tonight.
"They have tremendous athletes on both sides of the ball and they play fast football," he said. "We can't afford mistakes or they will take advantage of them."
The Knights are led by a pair of seniors. Quarterback Joe Gigliotti has rushed for 168 yards and two touchdowns while senior tailback Nolan Gesing has added 148 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 24 carries.
The Knights have had moments where they have looked sharp and others where their youth and lack of experience show but Penley is proud of his team.
"In spite of our youth, I've been very proud of how our young men are playing and we've got to continue to grow and mature in the game of football," he said.
One of the keys to the game for the Knights will be keeping Corry's special teams in check.
"They have probably one of the most explosive special team groups in District 10," Penley said. "They returned two kickoffs last week for touchdowns and are very sound."
Penley is excited for the opportunity to play Corry and will have his team ready.
"We have to start limiting our mistakes and playing much more disciplined football on defense," he said. "We need to make sure that we are sure of our assignments and sound on our run and pass schemes."
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Corry High School.
