JCC women’s soccer cruises to 5th straight win

After receiving its first votes in the NJCAA Division III rankings earlier this week, the Jamestown Community College women’s soccer team built on that early season success with an 8-0 home win over SUNY Broome on Saturday.
The victory moved the Jayhawks to 5-0 to start the year, a program record for both wins to begin a season and most consecutive victories for a Jamestown CC women’s soccer squad.
It didn’t take long for the Jayhawks to light the scoreboard up. Freshman Avery Johnson showed why she’s the reigning Region 3 Player of the Week as she scored her first of four goals at the 2:55 mark for a 1-0 JCC lead.
The game stayed at 1-0 for the next 25 minutes before Sikhona Msebii found the back of the net for a 2-0 Jayhawks edge.
That two-goal advantage would last into halftime, but that is when the Jayhawks started to impose their will on the Hornets.
Johnson notched her second of the afternoon in the 47th minute for a three-goal edge.
In the 61st minute, Ally Notarianni sent a perfect lead pass to Mary Lundmark, who didn’t miss as the lead ballooned to 5-0.
The Jayhawks weren't done though, as Johnson added to her team-leading total (14) with goals in the 65th and 77th minutes to finish the day with four. That makes it four hat tricks in five games for the local Southwestern product.
Fellow freshman Gracie Chimera etched her name into the stat sheet at 81:01 when she took the offering from Kennady Ellsworth and found the back of the net for a 7-0 Jamestown CC lead.
The final tally came in the 87th minute when Lundmark tacked on another goal, this time assisted by Chimera for the 8-0 final.
Jamestown CC moves to 5-0 on the season, 4-0 in the region.
The Jayhawks face their toughest test of the season on Wednesday when nationally ranked Genesee CC comes to town at 4:30 p.m.
