Jamestown Old Timers win 3rd straight title

WARREN, Ohio -- The Jamestown Old Timers Baseball Club won a third straight 50’s National Championship on Sunday, Sept. 6 by defeating United, Ohio, 6-0.

Old Timers manager Ed Baldensperger, pitched a five-hit shutout in the win.

The Old Timers' 10-hit offense was led by two doubles by Wade Nelson, Chris Yost going 2 for 3 and Ted Wyberanec going 2 for 2.

With the two wins over United the Jamestown Old Timers completed their regular season with a record of 9-4 and secured the No. 1 seed in the double-elimination playoff tournament.

On July 26 at Salem Romeo Concrete in Salem, Ohio, Jamestown won 10-8 and 12-6.

In Game 1, Baldensperger was the winning pitcher. Salem's David Kemble hit a home run while Jamestown's Nelson, Glenn Morse and Wyberanec each had a double. Morse went 4 for 4 and Brian Ferry was 3 for 3.

In Game 2, Winston Woodard was the winning pitcher. Salem's Eric Bell hit a home run while Jamestown's Jason Ostrom, Morse and Kyle Jenkins each doubled. Salem's John Rydarowicz also added a double. Morse finished the game 3 for 3-.

On Aug. 1 against United, Ohio, at Legion Field in Warren, Pennsylvania, Jamestown won 17-6 and 11-10.

In Game 1, Baldensperger was the winning pitcher. Morse went 4 for 4 and Jamestown's Marc Lobdell was 3 for 3 while Nelson doubled.

In Game 2, Baldensperger earned the win in relief of Winston Woodard as Jamestown scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning to win.

Yost doubled as part of Jamestown's 15-hit attack.

For the weekend, Morse went 12 for 14 in four games and Baldensperger earned three wins, pitching a total of 16 innings.
