Ike’s Elms grabs first career win

UNION CITY -- "We knew this race would be a challenge," Eisenhower head coach Darlene Beach said after the Knights lost to Union City in Region 4 cross country Tuesday.
The varsity boys were narrowly defeated 25-31, and the varsity girls lost 15-50. Despite the defeat, there were plenty of positive takeaways.
Knights freshman standout Josie Elms notched her first career victory running an impressive 22:52 pace, almost one minute ahead of second-place finisher and teammate, Izzy Grosch (23:49). Addyson Britt finished sixth with a 28:54, and Haley Ferrie was seventh with a 29:04.
In the varsity boys race, Mason Britt was the top runner for the Knights with an 18:41 time, good for third overall, and Parker McBride just 8 seconds behind in fourth place. Cameron Lindell (19:22) finished seventh, Alex Lund (19:27) was eighth and Joseph Fanelli (19:32) in ninth.
The junior high girls took all five spots with Kaylee Ferino's 11:38 earning the top spot, followed by Naveen Mead's 12:46. In spots three through five were Evelina Carlson (12:46), Lillian Ishman (12:48) and Lexis Wolfer (15:13).
Four Knights competed in the junior high boys race, with Zach Ayers earning a third-place overall finish with a 10:44. Grant Criswell's 11:58 was good for fifth place, followed by Andrew Grosch's 13:26 and Derek Leach with a 15:05.
The Knights head to the Blue Devil Invitational in Sharon this Saturday.
