RUSSELL -- The Eisenhower volleyball team dropped its home opener on Tuesday night 3-1 to Erie First Christian Academy.
The Eagles took the first set 25-11, but the Knights battled to take the second set 25-20. Erie First Christian Academy capitalized on mistakes by Eisenhower to take the last two sets, 25-18 and 25-20.
"Overall, it was a good season opener," Knights head coach Lori Pascuzzi said. "We have a young team and it took us the first set to get the first-game jitters out, but after that I thought we settled down."
The Knights were led by seniors Alanna Byrd, who had 11 kills and one ace; Paisley Lawson, who added eight kills and one ace; sophomore Ashley Zimmerman, who had two kills and junior Neveah Bimber, who had two kills and four blocks.
Byrd, Lawson and junior Meredith Smyth combined defensively for 47 blocks and 28 serve receptions. Sophomore Vivian Palmieri added 21 serve receptions.
"Like any young team, we had moments where we looked really sharp and others where we lacked concentration," Pascuzzi said. "Now we just need to work on consistency."
