Dragons run against North East

The Warren boys and girls cross country teams hosted their first dual meet of the season Tuesday as they welcomed the North East Grapepickers.
"Today was a good first race for our athletes," reported head coach Michelle Johnson. "Up to this point, we've only seen some of our kids at invitationals. We knew North East was a solid team and it would be close."
In varsity girls action, Warren went 1-2 as senior Emma Peterson (20:44) and freshman Nina Woldt (20:59) paced the group. Adi Cullers (26:04) ran well for the Dragons.
The Grapepickers were victorious by a 21-37 margin as they took the first three spots for the varsity boys. Warren took the next three spots with Leyton Salvatore (17:43), Cole Fitzgerald (17:58), and Grayson Collopy (18:18). Also contributing to the team score were Channing Nuhfer (19:13) in 10th place, and Chase Fetzeck (19:39) earning 13th overall.
For the junior high girls, Elsie Woldt (11:44) won by almost a minute over the next runner with teammate Briauna Dougherty (14:28) coming in fifth, and Grace Peterson just two seconds behind at 14:30 and a sixth-place overall finish.
The junior high boys saw Curtis McGraw (11:31) come in 2nd, narrowly missing 1st place. Teammates Zane Getner (11:55), Ridgley Blum (12:15), and Jackson Warner (12:20) finished out the top 5.
Johnson added,"These kids have been putting in a lot of miles and working out hard. They have goals, as do Coach Shattuck and myself. Our sights are on the end of the season, and we are staying focused on that."
The Dragons head to Corry next Tuesday to take on the Beavers at 4 p.m.
