Corry takes 4A showdown

Beavers beat Dragons 25-11, 27-25, 27-25 in Region 4 volleyball

CORRY -- The highly anticipated matchup between two top-five Class 4A volleyball teams in Pennsylvania undoubtedly lived up to the hype Tuesday evening.

Despite falling 3-0 to Corry, the Warren Dragons played a tough match and made the Beavers earn the 25-11, 27-25, 27-25 Region 4 victory.

The first set was all Corry as the Dragons were settling into the loud crowd, coined "The Beaver Dam." After the nerves calmed, it was game on. Sets two and three featured an impressive quantity of high-caliber points the fans expected to see.

Down 24-23 and facing set point, the Dragons were able to hold on via an Attie Corey kill. The Beavers had another opportunity to seal the second set up 25-24, but Warren tied it back up. Unfortunately, a costly service error cost the Dragons, and the Beavers capitalized to take the second set.

The third set had fans at the edge of their seats. Down 18-12, the Dragons battled back to give themselves a chance to win the set, leading 25-24. Another service error allowed the Beavers to get the serve back at 25-25 where they won the final two points and the match.

Having 13 kills for the Dragons was Hailey Cabisca, followed by 11 from Lara Pearson. Corey had seven kills and two blocks, with Malysia Sorensen notching 22 digs. Brynn Norris had two assists and 10 digs, and Julia Getner contributed three aces, two kills and three blocks.

The Beavers were also victorious in the junior varsity matchup, winning 25-10, 25-22. Luci Salvatore had five kills and Kendall Skerda chipped in two kills and four digs. Lexi Nuhfer had seven assists and two kills, and Taylor Swanson had three blocks.

The Dragons look to bounce back Thursday when they host the Sharon Tigers at 7:15 p.m. at Warren Area High School.
