Stewart is bright spot for Dragons

The Warren girls tennis team took on the Cathedral Prep Ramblers in Region 2 play Wednesday at Betts Park, falling 4-1.
"Obviously, it's never enjoyable to lose, but we were happy with what we saw from the girls,” said head coach Thomas Pellegrino. “This has been a building year for us, and we saw a tremendous amount of improvement from the last time we played them. There were a lot of positives to take away from this match.”
One of the biggest highlights was Jade Stewart at third singles. Stewart came back from a set down to win 3-6, 6-1, 7-5.
"After dropping the first set, Jade switched up her game plan and started playing with some heavy spin and great ball placement," Pellegrino said. "She took control of the second set, winning 6-1."
The third set was a back-and-forth battle with Stewart finding herself down 4-5, but she fought back and won the next three games to take the set 7-5 and the match.
"This was a great win for Jade," Pellegrino said. "She started the season playing first doubles for us, but she has continued to work on her singles game and has earned her way into the third singles spot. She has now won two of her last three matches at third singles. She continues to improve every day, and it was great to see her make adjustments, dig deep, and find a way to win today. We were also really impressed with how Scotlynn Perry hung tough at first singles. She was playing against a district champion who also finished fourth in the state in doubles last year."
Scotlynn Perry lost at first singles 6-4, 6-2 and Olivia Romanosky lost at second singles 6-3, 6-1.
Cathedral Prep beat Laken Carroll and Laelah Mueller 6-1, 6-2 at first doubles and Caylin Warner and Carly Fitzsimmons 6-4, 6-0 at second doubles.
The Dragons are now 5-6 on the season and will travel to Elk County Catholic today.
