The Warren High girls soccer team is off to a great start in 2026 as they defeated the Franklin Knights Tuesday evening by a 4-1 margin.
The game was all Warren as the Lady Dragons controlled the pace from the beginning to the end.
Warren’s first goal was scored by Ellise Wilson who found the back of the net off a Lani Wenzel indirect kick. Wenzel decided it was her time to score, so that’s what she did off a nice throw-in from Delaney Moore.
With the Dragons now up 2-0, the Knights had to battle.
A Franklin goal just before the half put them in striking distance. After a 40-minute lightning delay at the half, it was time to finish the job.
Just two minutes after the hiatus, Joanna Bennett found Ava Wymer to regain the two-goal lead. Bennett followed up her assist with a goal, assisted by Lani Wenzel.
Up 4-1 with 32 minutes remaining, lightning struck again, so the referees called the game.
“It was a solid defensive performance from us, including a great effort in net by Bella Campbell,” reported head coach Traci Abplanalp. “It was a complete team effort, and it was awesome to have four goals from four different players!”
The Dragons look to continue this momentum on Thursday as they have a tough away matchup when they face the Meadville Bulldogs.
