WEST MIDDLESEX -- Kate Shippee paced the Warren girls golf team with a ninth-place finish out of 32 players at the Hickory Hornet Invitational held at Oak Tree Country Club on Wednesday, as well as a sixth-place finish out of 55 contestants on Thursday at the Warren Dragon Girls Invitational held at Cable Hollow Golf Course.
“Kate has had a very good start to the season and has been striking the ball very solid with four top-10 finishes in a row the last two weeks," reported Warren girls coach Scott Pearson. "I see her gaining confidence in her shot selection and is always trying to improve.”
Thursday featured sophomore Emma Sproveri shooting her personal-best score of 128, whereas the Warren Dragon Invitational saw personal best scores from Alyssa Reichle, Alyssa Goss and Cailee Williams.
Pearson added,"I think that the front-loaded schedule of invitationals is helping our players get experience and practice at the same time, and our players are developing more consistency in their shots.”
The Warren Invitational was a great success as it kicked off with a fine performance by Warren's own Williams playing the national anthem on her saxophone.
Like last year, the course saw some very talented golfers as Mercyhurst Prep's Morgan Eastman scored a hole-n-one on hole 13 and Seneca’s Kylie Bednar shot the low round of the day with a 73. The McDowell Trojans were the low team in the event.
“I am very happy with the success of our home invitational and the support we got from the neighboring schools, as we had 12 visiting schools compete today.” said Pearson. "We want to thank the many sponsors who made donations for this invitational as the funds will greatly help our golf team."
The Warren girls return to action Monday with their first mega match held at the Country Club in Meadville.
Following are the results from the Hickory Hornet Invitational: Kate Shippee 87, Cailee Williams 132, Juliana Polito 138 and Emma Sproveri 128. The team finished seventh.
Following are the results from the Warren Dragon Girls Invitational: Kate Shippee 80, Alyssa Reichle 111, Cailee Williams 116, Juliana Polito 124, Alyssa Goss 126, and Emma Sproveri 136, team finish 8th.

NORTH EAST -- The Warren boys were on the road Thursday for their second Region 6 mega match of the season.
Hosted at Green Meadows Golf Course, it was déjà vu for the Dragons as they mirrored their fifth-place finish earlier in the week.

The Meadville Bulldogs continued their strong start to the season, firing a best 4- of-5 team score of 295.
The Dragons head to Meadville on Monday for another mega match.
