Warren golf teams ready for season to begin

The Warren Area High School boys and girls golf teams are preparing for their 2026 season.
With 28 boys and seven girls out for the team, the Dragons are itching to not only tee it up, but to have success into the postseason and beyond.
For the boys, head coach Nate Sandberg is anticipating a veteran-heavy lineup featuring returning seniors Gavin Haibach, Michael Palmieri, Hayden Hendricks and Xander Russell.
"We once again are fortunate to have a lot of depth on the team this year," Sandberg said. "I am hoping our experience will aid us in posting good quality team scores, and having multiple kids qualify for individual districts."
The Dragons will once again have some very stiff competition in District 10 in the Meadville Bulldogs.
"Meadville has a buzzsaw of a team, and will again next season, as the main components of the Bulldogs are juniors," Sandberg said. "We can only control what we do on the course, so if we focus on ourselves and limit mistakes, we can certainly hold our own in competition play."
Coach Sandberg and the Dragons are hoping to finish as one of the top two teams in Region 6, which would mean they'd qualify for District 10 team championships.
"We also had a few individuals just miss qualifying for individual districts last year," Sandberg said. "I have a feeling they are looking to redeem themselves, fire some low scores, and see how far they can go."
On the girls side, the Lady Dragons are anticipating a successful season that includes newcomers paired with experienced golfers. Senior Kate Shippee is looking to build upon her fifth-place finish in the District 10 AAA individual competition from last season.
"I have seen Kate compete at a high level, and I believe she has every tool to be competitive at every event we play in this season," Warren girls head coach Scott Pearson said. "We will focus on fundamentals of golf from putting to driving to everywhere in between. We have a solid mix of veterans and newcomers of all skill levels, and I am excited for the season to begin."
The boys and girls squads have a combined eight events before the school year begins and many more throughout the month of September.
