MEADVILLE -- On the final day of summer break, Warren's Kate Shippee fired an 84 to win her first region match out of 20 girls as the Warren girls golf team finished in fourth place in the five-team region match held at The Country Club of Meadville.
"Kate has been hitting all of the clubs in her bag very well, which has put her in good scoring positions." said coach Scott Pearson. "It is very exciting to see her having success in her first five matches this year."
Representing the Dragons were Kate Shippee with an 84, Zella Hendricks 117, Alyssa Reichle 130, Cailee Williams 145 and Juliana Polito 186. The team competition was won by McDowell 260, Harbor Creek 310, Meadville 322 and Warren 331.
"The greens at Meadville were very fast and made being above the hole treacherous," Pearson said. "Lag putting was very important there to limit extra putts. Today was a learning experience for most of our inexperienced players in which a few played here for the first time and haven’t putted on greens this fast this year. We will spend the rest of the week working on putting, chipping, and more consistent ball striking to help prepare us for the next mega match."
The Dragons return to the course Monday as they travel to Green Meadows Golf Course for their second mega match of the season, hosted by the Harbor Creek Huskies.
