Eisenhower, Conneaut tie 5-5

RUSSELL -- The Eisenhower boys soccer team started its season Saturday with a 5-5 tie against visiting Conneaut Area High School in nonregion boys soccer.
The Knights' Easton Fitzgerald scored the first goal of the game at the 31:57 mark on a nice assist by Mason Degnan to give his team a 1-0 lead. Eisenhower's Rever Caudill then scored the first of his two goals, coming on a penalty kick at the 18:57 mark as the Knights opened up a 2-0 lead.
The Eagles would cut the lead to one when Noah Scott scored with 10 minutes remaining in the first half.
While the first half was a tight defensive battle, that would all change quickly as the Knights added to their lead when Carson Ferman scored just four minutes into the second half to make it 3-1 in favor of the home team.
Conneaut came out of the halftime break with three goals in 81 seconds to take a 4-3 lead at the 30:36 mark of the second half.
Eisenhower continued to attack the goal and Degnan connected on a direct kick six minutes later to tie the score at 4-4.
The Eagles' Andrew Medrick would score his second goal of the game with 29 minutes remaining to give the visitors the lead back at 5-4.
The Knights' fast-moving offense continued to push the ball upfield and Caudill would make good on a shot from the corner to knot the score at 5-5.
Both teams’ defenses stepped up and did not allow a goal the rest of the game at it ended in a tie in the opener for both teams.
