The Warren Unified track team is headed to the postseason Friday, as they will have a chance to qualify for the state competition.
Held at General McLane High School, every team shows up with an equal number of students to compete for a chance at the region title, but also a chance to compete at the state level. Every team has 12 participants and two alternates: seven athletes and seven partners. In order to qualify for the state competition, the Dragons must finish as one of the top three teams. Unified only advances teams, not individuals. Warren will compete against Allderdice, Conroy/CAPA, Corry, General McLane, McDowell and Northwestern.
Representing the Dragons are: Hemi Baran, Ryder Check, Jacob Elmquist, Julia Getner, Isaac Hammerbeck, Peyton Horner, Loralei Johnson, Wade Lewis, Elianna Retterer, Keely Southworth, Peyton Vincent and Isaac Zapel. The alternates are Colton Ristau and Noel Ireland. The 400-meter relay team competing is Isaac Hammerbeck, Wade Lewis, Hemi Baran and Elianna Retterer.
“We are looking forward to seeing how our team lines up against teams from the Erie and Three Rivers Regions,” Warren head coach Cayla Onoratti said. “Our athletes are motivated to set the precedent that Warren Unified Track is a competitive team. We are proud of the hard work these kids have put in this season and are expecting that same effort (today).”
The Dragons begin competition at noon.
