SLIPPERY ROCK — The Warren boys and girls track and field teams were in Slippery Rock on Saturday for the District 10 Class 3A Track & Field Championships.

The Dragons competed hard and took home a lot of hardware for their efforts.

The performance of the day came from Max Spiegel, who successfully defended his District 10 high jump title by setting a new personal best of 6 feet, 8 inches, which is now just 1 inch shy of the Warren record set by Seth Meyers in 1991. Spiegel’s leap was 9 inches more than the runnerup. He will compete on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at the PIAA Championships at Shippensburg University.

Another noteworthy performance from the weekend was sophomore Leyton Salvatore, who improved his Warren 800-meter record by .03 seconds with a new time of 1:57.79.

“We had a great bunch qualify for districts today. In all, we brought 40 kids to compete and we came home with 32 medals,” Warren head coach Kevin Dustin said. “Max jumped fantastic, setting a season personal record at 6-8. Not only does that make him a D10 champion and PIAA state qualifier, but it also qualifies him for New Balance Nationals. We had lots of personal bests on the season which is what we are looking for at the district meet. Leyton lowered his already school record in the 800 meters in a great race. I am very proud of everyone who competed today and happy for their success. We are now looking for Max to hopefully bring home a state medal.”
