It was Senior Night for the Warren baseball team as they honored their seniors David Manning, Eli Snyder, Colin Zdarko, Tage Wyman, Zane Carlson and Brady Shene on Monday at Old Legion Field.

The afternoon started off with the national anthem being played as usual. Due to speaker issues, that did not happen, until Zane Carlson asked, “Do you want us to sing it?” Well that was exactly what happened — the Warren boys baseball team sang the national anthem to kick off the game.

The Cathedral Prep Ramblers were in town and unfortunately for the Dragons, were hot with the bats, and stayed hot. The visitors managed to score 16 runs, including three home runs, before Warren could respond with two of their own in the bottom of the fifth inning, but it was too late for the comeback.

Warren’s Duncan McGarry notched the Dragons’ two RBIs, with Tage Wyman the lone hitter to find extra bases with a double.

Prep’s Matthew Boam earned the win on the mound, with Colin Zdarko earning the loss.

“I’m extremely proud of each and every one of our seniors. They’ve been grinding this year in a season where the weather has been especially uncooperative,” Warren head coach Johnny White said of his seniors. “This makes it very difficult to be able to work on the things we need to on the field, yet they’ve still put their nose to the grindstone and found ways to win throughout the year — sometimes unconventionally. I really wish we could’ve gotten the seniors a win today, but they understand that today’s not the end for them. We have three more games to play this week and the big one next week that we’ve been striving for.”

The Dragons will look to bounce back today as they travel to Erie High to take on the Royals at 4:30 p.m.

Starting at $3.50/week.
