Knights suffer softball setback

UNION CITY — Union City built an early lead and never looked back en route to a 13-0 victory over Eisenhower in a regional softball game Thursday.

The Bears scored four runs in the first inning, five in the second and four more in the third, highlighted by Marlie Swain’s grand-slam home run.

Marli Rectenwald, Morgan Zaffino and losing pitcher Samantha Childs had a single apiece for the Knights.

In the junior varsity game, Rectenwald’s three-run triple sparked Eisenhower to a 9-3 win.

Haley Kent added two hits and a pair of RBIs and Caitlyn Pikna chipped in a double in support of winning pitcher Cierra Melquist.

Starting at $3.50/week.
