Eisenhower qualifies several for states

The Eisenhower boys and girls track teams have had a stellar season and they continued that on Saturday at the District 10 Championships held at Slippery Rock University

The Knights crowned three district champions while setting four new school records and tying another.

“Just a great day for the Eisenhower track program,” Knights head coach Jimmy Schrecongost said. “We had multiple school records broken again: Beers, Van Guilder and Riley Robinault in their events. The boys team finishing second against some very strong competition says a lot about our athletes.”

There were outstanding performances from both the boys and the girls teams as the boys finished second behind Fort LeBoeuf while the girls finished 13th.

Joe Gigliotti in the 3,200 meters with a time of 9:34.93, Chase Myers in the high jump with height of 6 feet, 5 inches and Ethan Beers in the triple jump with a distance of 46 feet, 1 inch, all earned first place and were crowned district champions for the boys team.

Myers also finished third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.23 and will be competing in both events this coming weekend. Beers placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 11.5 inches, setting a new Eisenhower record in the process. He will be competing in both events at Shippensburg.

For the girls, Riley Robinault had an outstanding day. She finished second in the high jump, tying a school record with a 5-foot, 2-inch jump. She also placed third in the long jump and set a new school record with a leap of 17 feet, 5.25 inches. She will be competing in both events at the state tournament.

Joining Robinault at states in the long jump will be Rosalie Rondeau, who finished seventh with a leap of 16 feet, 11 inches.

Freshman Alex VanGelder finished in third place in the discus and set a new school record with a toss of 155 feet, 7 inches. He will be competing at Shippensburg also.

Several Knights had good performances and earned medals, but saw their seasons come to a close.

Laney Belcher finished sixth in the 400 meters and eighth in the 800 meters.

Bryceton Wilkins finished in 17th place in the 110-meter hurdles and 11th in the 300-meter hurdles.

Easton Fitzgerald finished eighth in the 200 meters and sixth in the 400 meters.

JE Unida finished fifth in the triple jump.

Ollie Boozer finished fourth in the triple jump and eighth in the high jump.

“The coaches and I are just super proud of this group of kids. In a year where we had some pretty miserable weather conditions for our meets, these kids just showed up and performed every time,” Schrecongost said. “They should be very proud of their performances. We had a lot of medal winners and it’s been a long time since we’ve sent this many to the state finals.”

The Knight track team has been building quietly for the last few years and it’s safe to say the secret is out.

“We could not be happier with our athletes from the varsity team down to the junior high program,” Schrecongost said. “We have some outstanding athletes that will be moving up next year and we are excited for the future.”
