RUSSELL — The Eisenhower softball team ended its season with an 8-7 win over Kane on Friday at Werner Park.
The Knights jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when Kendra Danielson ripped a single down the first-base line. Morgan Zaffino laid down a sacrifice bunt and Danielson stole home.
Eisenhower added four runs in the bottom of the third inning after Samantha Childs and Alexis Pascuzzi both singled to center field. Marli Rectenwald singled to left and Hailey Gray walked.
Childs started in the circle and pitched a complete game. The senior right-hander threw seven strong innings, allowed five earned runs, struck out four and walked six.
Offensively, the Knights were led by Abbie Darr, Childs and Rectenwald (two RBIs), who each collected two hits. Nakita Nelson walked twice and Danielson stole two bases.
“I thought we played a good game,” Eisenhower head coach Neal Kent said. “I was impressed with Sam Childs. She pitched a heck of a game for us. I also thought Morgan Zaffino played a great game defensively. She made tough outs at first base for us.
“It was nice to see our seniors go out with a win today. Childs, Pascuzzi, Danielson, Hailey Stec and Hailey Gray will be missed next year for sure.”
