Eisenhower baseball, softball lose at home
RUSSELL — It was a tough day on the diamond yesterday for Eisenhower’s baseball and softball teams.
The Knights lost 5-4 to Seneca in Region 4 baseball and 15-5 to West Forest nonregion softball.
In the baseball game, the Knights got out to an early 3-0 lead after a Seneca error led to a pair of runs in the first inning and another in the second inning.
The Bobcats scored four runs in the top of the third inning to take a 4-3 lead, but that would prove to be short-lived as Eisenhower tied the score on a Wesley Wilcox RBI in the bottom half of the inning.
The game remained tied until the top of the fifth when the Bobcats pushed a run across the plate to take a 5-4 lead, which proved to be the difference.
Caleb Jakubczak started on the mound and allowed three runs with two earned. The senior had four strikeouts.
Offensively the Knights were led by Wyatt Neall, who went 2 for 3 with an RBI and two stolen bases. Jakubczack added a triple in the loss.
In the softball game, Eisenhower jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Alexis Pascuzzi, Samantha Childs and Hailey Gray all scored.
West Forest began to chip away at the Eisenhower lead when it added a pair of runs in the second inning and then went ahead for good when they pushed four runners across the plate in the bottom of the third inning.
Samantha Childs took the loss for Eisenhower. The senior right-hander went 3 1/3 innings, giving up nine hits and nine runs (six earned). She walked three and struck out three.
Caitlyn Pikna led Eisenhower at the plate. She went 1 for 3 with a pair of RBIs. Kendra Danielson went 2 for 3. Childs drew three of the Knights’ nine walks in the game.
The Knights are back in action Thursday. Softball travels to Oil City and baseball visits Mercyhurst Prep in Erie.
