ERIE — The Warren Dragon baseball team faced off against the Meadville Bulldogs on Wednesday in the District 10 5A championship at Mercyhurst University.

The Dragons had their chances, but could not convert en route to a 2-0 Bulldog victory. The first two and a half innings were scoreless, until Meadville’s Ian Miller took hit a solo home run to take the lead. Meadville would score another insurance run in the fifth inning and would hold on for the win.

Warren baseball head coach Johnny White commented, “That game could be described as the epitome of the phrase, ‘That’s baseball,'” Warren coach Johnny White said. “David (Manning) went out and threw an incredible game. He filled the strike zone, kept them off balance, and we made plays behind him. We also had great at-bats throughout the whole game and ran up (AJ) Feleppa’s pitch count as much as we could when he lived in the zone as much as he did. Unfortunately, the ball just didn’t bounce our way. If Eli’s (Snyder) line drives down the line get by the left fielder, we probably score two more runs there. If Duncan’s (McGarry) fly ball in left-center carries a bit more, we’ll be able to build off that momentum. It took us all season, but we played a full seven innings today. We took care of the little things, we just weren’t able to string the hits together to put some runs on the board. And again, ‘That’s baseball.'”

Warren had five hits with Brady Shene going 2-for-3, with Manning, Broc Bryan and Duncan McGarry one apiece. In six innings, Manning struck out three. Feleppa earned the win for Meadville as he pitched seven innings and had five strikeouts.

“Our staff’s extremely proud of the seniors and what they did this year,” White said. “They helped reassert the standard for what it means to be a member of the Warren Dragon baseball team, and all of them will go on to do incredible things with their lives. All six seniors each played big parts in the growth of our program and they have absolutely nothing to hang their heads about. As for the rest of us, we can take a week off or so before we move into our exit meetings and set expectations for off-season work to get ready for next year. Exciting things are in store for this squad come next March.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
