A pair of leaders

Jakubczak, Lindberg have shown the way for Knights

RUSSELL — Eisenhower has gone through a lot of growing pains this baseball season and, with only one victory, it has been up to its two seniors — Caleb Jakubczak and Ben Lindberg — to provide the leadership for this young team.

“We have been lucky to have had both Caleb and Ben,” Knights head coach Parker Neal said. “They have both been exceptional leaders who have helped with their positive contributions, both on and off the field.”

Jakubczak is an accomplished athlete in both baseball and football. In the latter, he was the region Player of the Year as he was a standout at quarterback and safety where he set the school record for career interceptions. Headed to Division I Mercyhurst University to continue his football career, Jakubczak will be majoring in business management.

On the diamond, Jakubczack currently leads the Knights in batting average, slugging percentage and extra-base hits. He has hit a home run and slugged two triples against Mercyhurst Prep.

“He is a natural leader and has demonstrated that all season by putting the team above himself,” added Neal.

Meanwhile, Lindberg, who will attend Penn tech and major in civil engineering, “would do anything for this team,” according to Neal.

“His selfless attitude has been a model of consistency for our younger players,” Neal added.

Lindberg made his presence known in the outfield.

“He has worked tirelessly to improve in all aspects of the game,” Neal said. “We didn’t win as many games as we had hoped but these two young men were leaders for us and we will miss them both next year.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
