OIL CITY — The Warren boys and girls track & field squads had their first meet of the season Tuesday, and while both teams had solid performances, they both suffered losses.

The girls fell 79-71 and the boys dropped a 90-60 decision.

“Today was our first meet of the year against a great team in Oil City,” reported head coach Kevin Dustin. “It was great to get everyone competing on a nice day. Our girls team hung in tough and were narrowly defeated. The boys team showed a lot of good performances, but were out matched overall. We had a host of district qualifiers, which is great to see this early on. We definitely learned where our strengths are and identified some weaknesses that we need to address as a team. We look to come out stronger next week at our home opener against Eisenhower.”

Event winners for the girls contest were the 4×800-meter relay team (Morgan Alexander, Riley Evan, Leona Hovan, Brynn Norris), the 4×100-meter relay (Lexi Gulnac, Ava Wymer, Paiden Johnson, Nosel), Lilly Newton (400m, 200m), 4×400 meter relay (Lilly Newton, Leona Hovan, Michaela Dolan, Riley Evan), Zoe Rodgers (discus), Gracie Page (pole vault) and Hailey Cabisca (pole vault).

For the boys, the event winners were the 4×800 relay (Timmy Giger, Reilly Morgan, Grayson Collopy, Mason Warner), Adon Maier (110m hurdles), Leyton Salvatore (400m, pole vault), Grayson Collopy (3,200m), Joby Hilyer (discus) and Max Spiegel (high jump).

The Dragons have their home opener next Tuesday as they host the Eisenhower. The meet is slated to start at 4 p.m. at War Memorial Field.
