Warren splits at Corry; Spiegel PRs in high jump
CORRY — The Warren boys and girls track & field team traveled to Corry on Thursday to take on the Beavers.
The boys were victorious by the narrowest of margins, 75.25-74.75. The girls, meanwhile, fell 86-64.
Individual event winners for the boys were the 4x800m relay (Reilly Morgan, Grayson Collopy, Chase Fetzeck, Timmy Gieger); Kaiden Garris (100m); Leyton Salvatore (1600m); 4x100m relay (Kahle Kuzminski, Scott Nichols, Tomasso Clemente, Kaiden Garris); Tomasso Clemente (200m); Grayson Collopy (3,200m); Max Spiegel (high jump); and Aiden Eger (pole vault).
Winning events for the girls were the 4x800m relay (Leona Hovan, Morgan Alexander, Brynn Norris, Riley Evan); Morgan Alexander (1600m); 4x100m relay (Lauren Fajbik, Lexie Gulnac, Ava Wymer, Madelyn Nosel); Morgan Alexander (3200m); Brynn Norris (high jump); Hailey Cabisca (pole vault); and Lara Pearson (shot put, javelin).
Junior Max Spiegel keeps raising the bar, literally, as he earned a personal best in the high jump with an impressive 6-foot, 6-inch leap. This mark is just three inches shy of the Warren High School high jump record of 6-9 set by PIAA state champion Seth Meyers in 1991.
“We competed well at Corry and walked away with some personal bests and district qualifiers,” Warren head coach Kevin Dustin reported. “The boys meet is the closest I have ever seen it without being a tie. We are happy to come away with that big win. The girls had a lot of big performances that we will continue to build on. I’m very pleased with where we are at and how we are shaping up as a team.”
The Dragons host Titusville next Tuesday at 4 p.m. at War Memorial Field.
