The Warren High baseball team had their home opener Wednesday afternoon as they hosted General McLane at Old Legion Field. The Lancers came out swinging right from the start as they amassed six runs in the first inning off sophomore Broc Bryan and cruised to a 10-3 victory.
The Dragons would respond in the 3rd and 4th innings by scoring three total runs to cut the Lancer lead to just three off an RBI single from Brady Shene and two errors. Unfortunately for the Dragons, McLane would cross the plate four more times to secure the win.
“That’s a great baseball team we saw today,” reported Warren head coach Johnny White. “We took their jabs in the first inning, got right back in the ring, and clawed our way back into the game. We are moving in the right direction, we just have to continue to grind from the first pitch through the last pitch.”
Despite the loss, the Dragons were resilient after being down 6-0 quickly and battled as hard as they could.
White added, “Broc (Bryan) did a great job of settling down after the first inning and was able to come back and keep us in the game from there. Our approach kept us in contention, and it was great to see a little breakout from Eli (Snyder). We knew it was only a matter of time, and now he is definitely excited to anchor our lineup going forward.”

Charlie Salvo picked up the win for the Lancers, with Broc Bryan getting the loss. Brady Shene notched one hit and was credited with the lone RBI for the Dragons. Also contributing hits for the home team were Eli Snyder with two including a double, and Gabe Thibodeaux, Tage Wyman, and Zane Carlson all with one a piece.
The Dragons (1-2) look to bounce back Friday as they host the Fort LeBoeuf Bison for a 4 p.m. start at Old Legion Field.
