Warren boys tennis blanks Bradford

BRADFORD — The Warren boys tennis team dodged the weather Tuesday and made the most of its opportunity, sweeping Bradford 5-0 in a nonregion matchup.

A highlight of the day came at second singles where sophomore Gabe Dougherty picked up a big win over a talented Mason Close, coming back from a set down to win it in three.

“Gabe was a bit passive in the first set and struggled to hit through the ball, allowing Mason to close the net and finish things early,” Dragons head coach Thomas Pellegrino said. “He was able to regroup heading into the second and make some necessary adjustments to take control of the match and ultimately pull off the come-from-behind win.”

Pellegrino added, “Overall this was another great showing from our guys. We were pleased with how everyone played today, and we were excited to get this in. Bradford has a solid team this year, and provided some good matchups for us especially in singles.”

The Dragons are now 2-0 on the year and hit the road again today to take on Titusville.

Warren also saw strong performances in junior varsity play, with Josh Westover, Grant Newton, Luc Wilkins, Trey Carrington and Bentley Sherry all picking up wins.
