The postseason basketball honors continue to roll in for Eisenhower senior Clara Steinberg.
This time it’s courtesy of the Pennsylvania sportswriters, who announced on Tuesday their all-state teams by class and Steinberg was voted to the 3A Second Team.
“Clara is the hardest-working player I have ever coached,” said Knights head coach DJ Steinberg, who is Clara’s father. “She hasn’t missed a workout or practice in four years. She lifts or shoots everyday before school. When there is no school, I have seen her knock ice off an outside net to get her workout in. She has been relentless in pursuit of her goals.”
The 5-foot-8 Steinberg led Eisenhower to its fourth consecutive playoff appearance this season, and paced the Knights in scoring (21.5 ppg), to go along with 4.0 assists, 6.6 rebounds, 3.2 steals and 1.5 blocks per game. For her career, Clara made 218 3-pointers and became the school and Warren County girls scoring leader with 1,874 points.
Signed to continue her academic and athletic career at Penn West California University, Clara, according to her dad, “won’t be the tallest or the fastest at Cal U, (but) I have no doubt she will be the hardest-working player on their roster. It’s her work ethic that has always set Clara apart and there are a bunch of youth players at Eisenhower that want to be just like her. We have a ton of elementary and junior high girls who have seen what is possible when the work gets put in, and a few have said they want to break Clara’s records. As her father and coach, that makes me incredibly proud.”
