Bryan shines on the mound, Dragons down Corry
CORRY — The Warren baseball team picked up its first win of the season Tuesday when it defeated Corry 8-3.
The Dragons rebounded nicely from its loss to Meadville earlier in the week by collecting nine hits and riding an impressive pitching performance by sophomore Broc Bryan to victory over the Beavers.
“We’re incredibly proud of how the boys played,” head coach Johnny White said. “One through nine (in the lineup) everyone contributed. We stressed to them last night that we had to kick the rust off, adjust our approaches a little bit, and keep playing the hard-nosed baseball we have established since day one. Now they’ve gotten a taste of the rewards you receive when you work hard.”
Warren notched three runs in the second inning, but the Beavers responded with a run of their own to cut the Dragon lead 3-1. The next two innings were scoreless for both teams, but Warren scored runs spanning the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to keep Corry at bay.
Bryan struck out 11 en route to the win.
“Broc’s performance today was stellar,” White said. “Striking out 11 and going 2 for 4 at the plate, you can’t really ask for a better performance. We have the rest of today to enjoy the win, but we work to get better tomorrow.”
Of the Dragons’ nine hits, David Manning had three, followed by two apiece from Brady Shene (RBI, double) and Bryan. Bradey Chase (double, two RBIs) and Gabe Thibodeaux (RBI) each had one; and Charlie Blum and Eli Snyder each contributed an RBI. On the mound Bryan’s 11 Eli Snyder got the final two outs in relief.
The Dragons return to action next Wednesday as they host General McLane. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. at Legion Field.
