The Warren boys tennis team has been quite the road warriors.

The Dragons kicked off the week with a big region win over Fairview on Monday and kept that momentum going with wins over Bradford, Maple Grove and Titusville.

Warren first took on Maple Grove on Wednesday night at the Lakewood YMCA coming away with a strong 5-0 performance against a team that had defeated Warren the last two times they played.

“I was really happy with our boys in the Maple Grove match,” said Dragons head coach Thomas Pellegrino. “Lucas (Thrift) and Gabe (Dougherty) both came out with some impressive wins over some top talent, and our doubles pairs played great.”

Thrift pulled off another three-set thriller with a 2 1/2-hour match over Maple Grove’s Jack Sherry while Dougherty came out with a strong win over Max Conejo.

Pellegrino added, “Jack and Max actually train with our team during the offseason, so these were fun to watch and highly competitive. Gabe had previously lost to Max the last two-three times they played over the winter, so for him to come out with that type of performance was impressive.”

The next day the dragons traveled to Titusville to take on the Rockets, pulling off a 4-1 win.

“I think our boys were definitely a bit tired in this one, but we were happy with the results,” Pellgrino said. “Both of our doubles pairs are starting to click right now and continue to be the driving force for us each match. We have been really impressed with all four of them this week.”

The Dragons look to rest up this weekend to prepare for a doubleheader on Monday when they take on ECC at 2 p.m. at Betts Park followed by St. Marys immediately after.

The Dragons are now 4-0 on the year and 1-0 in region play.

3rd singles: Jaxon Thrift (W) defeated Molly Covell (T) 6-2 6-0

1st doubles: Gaven Mealy/Karson McCollough (W) defeated Amelia Warner/Mariah Covell (T) 6-0 6-2

2nd doubles: Bill Bennett/Tobiah Reinard (W) defeated Mary Herps/Sydney Riddell (T) 6-1 6-0

Josh Westover, Grant Newton, Luc Wilkins, Trey Carrington, and Bentley Sherry were all winners in JV play.
