Warren County girls wrestlers compete at Western Regional
PITTSBURGH — The Warren County girls wrestling team had five representatives recently compete at the Western Regional tournament at Mount Lebanon High School.
Jenna Kophazy, Madisyn Flores, Bryn Lindell, Kaylee Cyphert and Emily Wiles wrestled hard and competed well for the Dragons.
“We were fortunate to get the five girls out to Regionals,” stated head coach Glenn Baldensperger. “We were happy to get a couple wins. The girls had a really nice year, and you can’t base the entire season solely on this weekend. For our first year as an independent team, it couldn’t have gone any better.”
Kophazy defeated Cheyenne Berglund out of Ellwood City via a 2-0 decision in the first round, and Madisyn Flores had a pin at the 1:42 mark against Canon-McMillan’s Kadence Merigo in the second round of the consolation bracket.
“We wrestled hard all season, and that is all we asked for,” Baldensperger said. “The Warren County wrestlers had an impressive 25 girls to finish the season, and will look to build on those numbers heading into next season.”
The wrestlers have a breakfast benefit from 8-11 a.m. on Sunday, March 15 at the Eagles Club in Warren.
