The Warren boys and girls basketball teams were well-represented in the Erie Times selection of Region all-stars. For the boys, senior duo Logan Crissey and Lucas Thrift were named to the Region 5 first team, with fellow senior teammates Jacob McMeans earning second-team honors.

Warren head coach Jeff Berdine commented, “Logan Crissey is the classic case of your hardest worker being your best player. His work ethic sets a high standard for those that come after him. This year he had to handle the ball for us at times, and accepted that role as he stepped outside his comfort zone for the good of the team. 9 times out of 10 he was the best player on the floor even in the District 10 playoffs and our PIAA game.”

Berdine also discussed Thrift, stating, “Lucas had tons of presence under the glass this season. He is an underrated scorer and brings a lot of athleticism for his size. He is a big, physical player with great hands, soft touch, and is a dominant rebounder. When he was healthy, we let him guard other teams; best post player with little or no help.”

Berdine reported on McMeans, “Jacob is a streaky shooter who improved on his ball defense throughout the course of the season. He made some huge three-pointers in our District 10 playoff run, showed up, and worked hard all year to improve his overall game. Jacob went from someone who I initially thought would be a very good role player for us, to a player who played 28 minutes a game.”

Berdine concluded, “I am very happy that they were recognized by the coaches of Region 5 for their outstanding seasons.”

For the Region 7 girls, senior Peyton Wotorson was selected to the first team, with senior teammate Emma Roell named to the second team.

Head coach Jenny Phillips commended their efforts, “Peyton and Emma have dedicated 4 years to this program and I couldn’t think of two people more deserving of this honor. Emma has been our floor general for the past two years and set the pace for our offense. This year she really stepped up on both ends of the floor and proved why she got this recognition. Peyton is such a tremendous all-around player, making a huge impact across the board. She’s a player that’s hard to guard on offense and a pest on defense. She is a 4-year letterman and deserves every recognition she gets. I am super proud of these ladies. It’s been such a privilege to coach them and be part of their journey. I’ll miss them tremendously both on and off the court.”
