Ike suffers softball setback at Rocky Grove

FRANKLIN — Eisenhower jumped out to an early lead and collected more hits than Rocky Grove, but suffered a 12-7 road softball loss nonetheless Wednesday afternoon.

The Knights got on the board first, plating three runs in the top of the first inning when Hailey Gray singled, Abbie Darr tripled in a run and Kendra Danielson hit a sacrifice fly.

Eisenhower led 4-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning, but Rocky Grove plated 10 runs on one hit — Payton Phillips two-run single — to take a 12-4 lead.

The Knights added three runs in the top of the seventh inning, but it wasn’t enough and they lost for the second time in as many days.

Sammie Childs started in the circle for Eisenhower and the senior right-hander went five innings, gave up three hits and two unearned runs, struck out three and walked three. Darr took the loss in relief.

For the game, the Knights outhit Rocky Grove 14-4, but yielded 13 walks.

Gray and Marli Rectenwald (triple, double) had three hits apiece and Darr added two triples to lead Eisenhower offensively.

In the junior varsity game, Eisenhower defeated Rocky Grove 22-5.

The Knights were led by Vivian Palmieri and Sophia Depasquali who each doubled. Shelbi Rhoades added two singles in support of winning pitcher Cierra Melquist.

Eisenhower is back in action Monday when it welcomes Titusville to Werner Park. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
