GENEVA, Ohio — Lucy Harrison is a District 10 champion … again.
Warren’s senior swimmer claimed the Class 3A 100-yard backstroke by more than 2.5 seconds margin on Saturday at the SPIRE Institute. Harrison’s time of 1:03.02 her a second District 10 3A title in 24 hours, after claiming the 50-yard freestyle crown Friday.
“Honestly, I feel like I could run through a wall!” she said. “This has been a dream come true. When I touched the wall, I pretty much knew I won, and I finished with a smile on my face. I slapped the water and ran to my team as fast as I could.”
Added Dragons head coach Brandon Gregg: “Lucy had a mid-season break with illness, but pulled through and rallied back to take down two District 10 titles this weekend. She set time goals for herself before each individual race and met them with ease.”
Harrison said that she has “never been so proud of myself.”

“I can’t believe I was able to put up those times considering how sick I was three weeks ago.”
Also competing for the Dragons was Emma Peterson, who earned a runner-up finish in the 500-yard freestyle, behind Erie High’s Ellie Wertz’s.
“Emma had big time drops in both events and did phenomenal,” stated Gregg. “She has been focused all year.”
Earning a bronze medal in the 200-yard medley relay was the team of Adelaide Keeports, Harrison, Jennifer Koppenhafer and Emma Peterson with a time of 2:08.34. “Our girls’ relay had an impressive performance,” added Gregg.
The 2A Warren boys were represented by Trey Retterer, Levi Peterson, and Jacob Retterer. “The boys all had personal best times, and our two freshmen are showing great promise for the next few years to come,” Gregg said.
Harrison advances to the PIAA Championships at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, March 11-12, and will compete in the 50-freestyle and 100-backstroke.
