Frigid temperatures didn’t stop the Youngsville and Eisenhower youth wrestlers from getting out and taking advantage of some local tournaments over the weekend.

In Sheffield, the annual Law of the Paw Open produced several place winners for both the Little Eagles and Little Knights.

Wade Fithian, Johnathan Sullivan and Owen Ash were each crowned champions of their weight classes.

Fithian won each of his matches by bonus with two technical falls, a pin and a 10-0 major decision. Not to be outdone, Sullivan posted a pin and two technical falls, while Ash recorded three falls and a technical fall.

The Little Knights and the Little Eagles each had a slew of wrestlers finish in second place as well.

Brantley Coleson, Ronnie Shellhouse, Jack White, Zain Woodburn and Hayden Jackson finished second for the Little Knights.

Kendall Mosher, Kinsley Dean, McKenzie Hodak, Jack Lane and Sam Hagg each placed second for the Little Eagles.

Yet more Little Knights and Little Eagles finished in third place: Braydan Taylor, Clayton Dyke and Haden Bik for the Little Knights; Kole Renwick, Brian Riel and Evan Sullivan for the Little Eagles.

Finishing fourth for the Little Knights were Eric Woodin, Conner Ash, Leyton Curtis and Lilianna Barnes.

Over in Union City, several Little Eagles novice wrestlers took part in the Area VIII Futures Tournament.

Westin Cope was crowned champion of the 8 and under 102-111-pound weight class. Cope picked up a 17-second fall and a 19-second fall throughout the day en route to claiming the title.

Addie Sullivan joined in on her brothers’ successful weekend as she finished runnerup in the 8 and under 73-86-pound weight class. Sullivan earned a 13-1 major decision over General McLane’s Raegan Ludwig and a pin over Northwestern’s Conor Place to reach the finals where she lost 7-0 to General McLane’s Grant Dronko.

Hudson Ward finished with the bronze medal in the 8 and under 64-71-pound weight class. Ward lost his opening bout by major decision, but came roaring back through the consolation bracket two pins, a technical fall, and a 9-0 major decision over McDowell’s Dalton Conser in the consolation finals to finish in third place.

Rounding out the place winners for the Little Eagles was Lyle Erickson who finished fourth in the 6 and under 58-65-pound weight class. Erickson picked up two pins throughout his day.

Also wrestling for the Little Eagles were Justin Baker, Ian Sullivan, Karma Daman, Ethan Baker, Bentley Vanhouten, Caroleigh Haines, Lawson Mechling, Aiden Miller and Hudson Baker.
