Warren girls hold off Erie 39-31 on road
ERIE — The Warren girls basketball team was victorious for the second time in five days over Erie High on Tuesday.
The Dragons bounced back nicely after suffering a tough loss Monday at Cathedral Prep, with a 39-31 win over the Royals.
Tied after the first quarter, the Dragons were able to pull away in the second quarter to go up five points heading into the half.
A balanced offensive effort in the second half from senior duo Emma Roell and Peyton Wotorson enabled the Dragons to hold off a solid Royals fourth quarter, and secure the win.
“(Monday) was definitely a tough game, as Prep always is,” said head coach Jenny Phillips. “The girls could have folded it in, but knew they needed to hunker down, bring the energy and play tough. That’s what I love about this team: their ability to come together and be the team I know they can be.”
Roell led the scoring for the Dragons with 18 points, followed by Wotorson with 10 and freshman Joanna Bennett chipped in 6.
The girls have their final regular-season game Thursday when they travel back to Erie to take on the McDowell Trojans.
