The Warren boys basketball team won their penultimate regular-season game Thursday as it defeated the visiting Bradford Owls 59-54.

The Dragons showed their resilience and made some clutch free throws down the stretch to secure the victory. The Dragons got off to a very slow start, down 19-10 after the first quarter.

“We were very lackadaisical in the first quarter for us on both ends of the floor,” reported head coach Jeff Berdine.

The Dragons snapped out of their trance and flipped the script on the Owls as they outscored them 21-7 in the second quarter which included a 13-0 run to end the half. The second half was a back and forth battle, but the Dragons held firm. Bradford would nail a 3-pointer with just 10.7 seconds left to cut the Dragon lead to 57-54, but that was as close as they would get. Warren senior Allen Eaton would get fouled and made both free throws to keep the lead out of reach for the Owls.

“Our free throw shooting was much better tonight,” added Berdine. “The second and third quarters were 100% better, but we still gave up some easy buckets that we need to avoid in the future. Logan (Crissey) and Lucas (Thrift) did a good job controlling the boards for us tonight. We wanted to be solid on the ball and ended up giving up four 3-pointers in the first half.”

The Dragons have their final regular-season game tonight as they travel to Corry to take on the Beavers. This is a 6 p.m. junior varsity start with varsity to follow at 7:15 p.m.

“Corry played very physically the last time we played them, so this one should be another good game to close out the regular season,” concluded Berdine.

Eaton was the leading scorer for Warren with 17 points. Crissey added 15, and Thrift was also in double digits with 13.

The Warren junior varsity team took care of business versus the Owls as it prevailed 54-37. Freshman Jackson Clark was the leading scorer with 13 points. Max Spiegel and Holden Demers each had 9 points, and Bryce Grolemund chipped in 8.
