Playoff implications
Warren unified bocce teams have big matchup with Maplewood on Tuesday
The Warren unified bocce program has its most important match to date since the program was introduced last year.
A potential playoff berth is at stake for the Dragons as they host Maplewood on Tuesday at Warren Area High School at 3:30 p.m.
“This is our second match against Maplewood,” stated head coach Cayla Onoratti. “Last time we split — Warren 1 lost and Warren 2 won, and then fell in the Golden Frame. This is an important game for both Warren teams as we are working toward the first playoff run for WAHS Bocce. We are attempting to pack the stands and appreciate all support from our community.”
In order to have a shot at playoffs, a win is needed for the Dragons. Since Warren 1 and Warren 2 are independent teams, there are a few potential scenarios. They both could make the playoffs, both could miss, or one team could advance. As of last week, both Warren 1 and Warren 2 sit atop the Division 3 standings, and look to have a strong finish to end the season.
“We didn’t get a bye week, so we will have to wait for Section 3 games to finish up on February 10 before we know for certain if either or both teams will advance,” Onoratti said. “A playoff chance would mean so much to our team and school. This is only our second season on Unified Bocce, and these kids have been working so hard to get where we are. Our goal this season was to advance, and we are right on the cusp of it currently. A packed gymnasium on Tuesday would mean a lot to our students.”
