Several from Eisenhower, Youngsville qualify for championships

ERIE — The Bayfront Convention Center played host to the Keystone State Championships Northwest Qualifier on Wednesday andSunday.

Wrestlers from as far away as northern Pittsburgh and Port Allegany came to the tournament looking to lay claim to one of the top seven spots.

First up were the 14U and 16U wrestlers who competed Wednesday.

Eisenhower qualified five wrestlers out of the eight who made the trip.

Champions of their weight class were Collin Havers and Johnathan Sullivan, who won the 14U 172-pound and 14U 212-pound weight classes, respectively.

Havers rolled to his title with two technical falls and a pin while Sullivan earned three pins and a 56-second technical fall to claim his title.

Lane Morrison posted an impressive 4-2 record en route to finishing fourth at 14U 96 pounds. Morrison earned three pins and an 11-3 major decision throughout his tournament.

Finishing in sixth place were Ronnie Shellhouse and Owen Ash.

Shellhouse earned three pins to qualify at 14U 82 pounds. Ash earned two pins and a 10-3 decision as he qualified at 14U 124 pounds.

On Sunday, the Knights qualified four additional wrestlers and the Youngsville Little Eagles qualified five wrestlers.

Qualifying at 6U 61 pounds were Lyle Erickson and Ian Sullivan, who placed fourth and sixth, respectively.

In the 8U Division, the Little Eagles had one qualifier and Little Knights had two qualifiers.

Grayson Kitchel followed up his Area VIII title last weekend with a runnerup finish in the 8U 45-pound weight class.

Wade Fithian finished fifth out of a whopping 44 wrestlers at 8U 60 pounds.

Kole Renwick bookended his day with come-from-behind pins as he finished in seventh place.

In the 10U Division, Sam Hagg stood alone as he finished fourth in the 10U 150-pound weight class.

In the 12U Division, Hunter Vanderhoof, Autumn Waite and Brian Riel qualified as they finished third, third and sixth, respectively.

Vanderhoof earned five wins on the day, three of which came by bonus points.

Waite finished in third place as she won three matches.

Riel had a win by pin as he qualified in the 12U 200-pound weight class.

The Keystone State Championships will be held March 13-15 in State College.
