GENEVA, Ohio — Lucy Harrison is a District 10 champion.
The Warren senior swimmer won the girls 50-meter freestyle on Friday evening at the SPIRE Institute. Seeded No. 1, Harrison lived up to that ranking, and captured the gold medal, a personal best and a trip to the PIAA state competition in two weeks.
“I was definitely feeling some extra pressure when I heard I had the first seed,” reported Harrison, who posted a winning time of 25.89. “Having mono and being out for a month of the season, I wasn’t sure what kind of performance I was going to have, but I couldn’t be happier.”
This wasn’t Harrison’s first shot at a District 10 title, as she and her tennis doubles partner Alannah Garza, made the District 10 final last fall. After losing that contest, Harrison wasn’t going to let another title opportunity slip through her hands again.
“I’ve been fighting for a D10 title for four years now, and this feels like I finally accomplished that goal,” stated Harrison. “It’s been such a long journey.”

Harrison is not finished yet as she will compete in the 100-meter backstroke today, and hopes to continue her success. Once the district competition is over, she plans to “…take care of my body for the next two weeks, eating well, and focusing up at practice.”
