Dragons secure key win at Franklin
FRANKLIN — Logan Crissey poured in 24 points to lead the Warren boys basketball team to a 62-54 Region 5 victory over Franklin on Tuesday night.
“This is a huge win on the road,” Dragons head coach Jeff Berdine said. “It keeps us on track for the games down the stretch to be big.”
Warren held a commanding 35-22 lead heading into the half, but a strong third quarter put the Knights just eight points down and within striking distance for the final period. A 16-point quarter by both teams enabled the Dragons to secure the crucial win.
“I am very pleased with the effort, focus, and in-game listening for adjustments from tonight’s group,” Berdine said. “Eight out of 10 across the board. The kids stepped up and made some big plays and passes to seal the victory. Down the stretch, I was trying to get them to be patient with the understanding that they were going to foul us and we would get two free throws once they did. We were a little too sloppy for my liking at times, but to go to Franklin and get both varsity and junior varsity victories is never an easy thing.”
Landon Wood finished with 11 points, Lucas Thrift had 9 and David Manning added 7. Matching Crissey’s 24-point performance was Franklin’s Jameson Wolford.
The Warren junior varsity team narrowly defeated Franklin 38-36. In double digits for the Dragons were Jaxon Thrift with 12 points and Bradey Chase with 10.
Warren is back at home on Friday when it hosts Oil City in another big Region 5 matchup. The junior varsity game starts at 6 p.m., followed by the varsity contest at 7:15 p.m.
