FARRELL — The Warren High boys basketball team suffered a 64-56 loss in its District 10 4A semifinal game against Sharon on Tuesday night.

One could argue the Dragons started at a slight deficit, as they had to travel more than 100 miles further than their opponent, yet they trailed only 27-24 at halftime.

Then, Santino Gavin went to work as he drained five 3-pointers to highlight a 23-point Sharon third quarter to extend its lead to 12 points heading into the final period.

“Santino had a career night for them”, said Warren head coach Jeff Berdine. “He had a huge third quarter, but we never quit.”

The Dragons outscored the Tigers in the final quarter, but ran out of time to complete the comeback.

Warren will play again Friday for the No. 3 playoff spot in the PIAA Tournament as it will face Hickory at a time and place to be determined.

Berdine added, “I reminded the kids tonight that they can be the fifth or sixth team in the history of Warren Area high school to win a state playoff game, so we need to put some work in the next two days and expect a very angry Hickory team after their loss tonight to Prep.”

The Dragons have two days to prepare.

“We had too many missed opportunities in the first half on the offensive end,” Berdine said. “It seemed like we just missed some of the shots we’ve been making the last two games, and we did not finish tonight near the hoop. When you give a good team like Sharon those types of opportunities to build a lead, they take advantage of it.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
