Milestone night

Hanson reaches 1,000-point mark, but Knights fall

Submitted photo Backed by his teammates, Eisenhower junior Austin Hanson (14) displays a banner that commemorates him reaching the 1,000-point career scoring plateau, which he did Monday night against Sharon.

SHARON — On the night junior guard Austin Hanson went over 1,000 career points, Eisenhower couldn’t solve Sharon’s Cedrick Boyd in the second half of an 83-67 nonregion boys basketball loss.

Playing their third game in four days, the Knights trailed by just a point after the first quarter after freshman Kymani Vine scored 6 points and Hanson scored 5.

Sharon extended its lead to five at halftime.

The Tigers’ lead began to grow in the third quarter, but with 47 seconds remaining in the period, Hanson pulled up on the right side of the 3-point arc and nailed the shot to go over 1,000 points for his career. Hanson finished with a game-high 27 points.

“Austin has put together a nice stretch of games,” Eisenhower head coach Ryan Mangini said. “It was great to see him go over the 1,000-point mark tonight. He is one of the hardest workers I’ve ever seen and it shows in his game.”

Eisenhower found itself down 57-38 heading into the fourth quarter.

Boyd scored 16 of his team-high 26 points in the second half for Sharon.

Eisenhower fell to 7-2 on the season.

“It was a good game for us to learn from,” Mangini said. “They exposed some bad habits of ours in the press and our half-court defense. We will watch some film and hopefully learn from this one.”
