Franklin downs Warren 48-40

FRANKLIN — The Warren girls basketball team was on the road Monday as they traveled to Franklin to take on the Knights, and were defeated in a close 48-40 bout.

The Knights took the early first-quarter lead, up 18-12 and led 32-24 at the half. Within striking distance, the Dragons were down 44-34 after three quarters with one to go. Despite holding the Knights to only four fourth-quarter points, the Dragons could only manage six of their own.

“We had some blips here and there,” Warren head coach Jenny Phillips said. “Giving up about 8-10 points on transition defense, and leaving the wrong people open. I was pleased with our effort, but continue to stress the little things we need to keep focusing on, like going after loose balls, being strong with the ball, and making good decisions. Peyton Wotorson and Peyton Hagg both played great tonight.”

Wotorson led the Dragons in scoring with 17 points, followed by Hagg with 8. The freshmen duo of Joanna Bennett and Ava Wymer chipped in 5 and 4 points, respectively.

In junior varsity action, the Dragons dropped a 18-17 verdict to the Knights. Ava Wymer dropped 12 points in the contest.

The girls return to the court Saturday when they host the Harbor Creek Huskies at Warren Area High School. Tip-off is slated for a 12:30 p.m. junior varsity start with varsity to follow.

Starting at $3.50/week.
