The Warren boys varsity basketball team picked up another Region 5 victory on Monday as they defeated the Seneca Bobcats 71-58 at Warren Area High School. The Dragons got off to another slow start just like they did on Friday, as they were down 19-16 after the first quarter. Fortunately for the home team, history did repeat itself as they were once again able to rally behind a 20-point second quarter capped off by an Allen Eaton three-point buzzer beater to end the first half. Warren would go up 36-33 heading into the half. Jacob McMeans had a strong first half, scoring 14 points that included three from beyond the arc.
The second half saw the Dragons strike first and extend their lead via strong performance from Logan Crissey and Lucas Thrift. Warren was able to utilize their depth to stay fresh and run the court en route to the win. Despite a series of turnovers from the Dragons, Seneca could not get into striking distance to threaten Warren.
Head coach Jeff Berdine commented on the win, “We had a strong finish to the second quarter which gave us momentum for the third. Opening the third with three straight scores certainly helped us settle in for the rest of the game. We will need to be better defensively Tuesday vs. Corry on a short turnaround.”
The Dragons had two players each score 17 points in Jacob McMeans and Logan Crissey. Lucas Thrift had another strong performance with 16 points. The Bobcats were led by Jason Jagta with 20 points, and Travis Dambaugh had 18.
The Warren junior varsity team continued their strong season, defeating the Bobcats 62-32. Holden Demers led the scoring department with 12 points, and Jaxon Thrift had 10.
